Handguards
If you are not into heated grips, you might want to try easier solution.
Handguards are often used in dirt and enduro bikes to keep your fingers safe from branches and maybe in case of stumble. But some handguard models are also excellent as windshields and direct draft away from your fingers.
Polisport has range of different handguards and after some exploring, I found that model Free Flow Lite to be possible for mounting in GS500E. They can be found on various dealers for price about 30 euros, but I found mine at sale for 18 euros.

Mounting was easy, I only had to loosen up both brake and clutch grip mounts and move them few millimeters, so that handguard attachment rod would fit between them and grip.

Also as these handguards are designed for dirt bikes with more straight or upward handlebars, they did not fit at right height and placement when installed right side up. I had to install them upside down, so profile would be at right angle to grips (and fingers). This does not cause any other problems than visual - "Polisport" logo is upside down.

They work great as "finger windshields". I could ride in +5°C with just my leather gloves without getting cold fingers. Also in case of stumble, they might help to protect your hands somewhat. At least if you crash directly into forest... :)

i bought some BMW 1200gs handguards for £20 and whilst they needed cutting and cable tieing they do a smashing job needed a spacer and two washing machine washers per side.
